There is much to see and do in the city of Sheffield, whatever time of the year you choose to visit. The city is split into a number of distinctive districts and neighbourhoods, which emanate from Sheffield city centre.
The very heart of the city is centred around Millennium Square, in the Arundel Gate area. The square stands next to Sheffield's stunning Winter Gardens temperate glasshouse and also the Millennium Galleries. Further north and off Norfolk Row is the city's Tourist Information Centre (TIC) and also St. Maria's Cathedral, next to the Post Office. A short walk to the north will lead you to York Street, Church Street and the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Sheffield Locations and Districts: Orientation - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, UK
On the eastern side of central Sheffield, Park Square is a notable location and leads to Duke Street, Exchange Place and also Sheaf Street. The prominent thoroughfare is lined with a number of notable buildings, including both the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre and Sheffield Hallam University.
To the north-west of Park Square, Exchange Place leads to Castlegate, Bridge Street and West Bar, close to the River Don and the Wicker area. This part of the city is home to the Magistrates Court, Sheffield Market and the Boardwalk, a major entertainment venue.
Other important districts within central Sheffield include Greenhill, Heeley, Hemsworth and Norton to the south, where the main attractions include Graves Park and its much-visited Rare Breeds Centre. To the east, the Darnall district and Sheffield Parkway are amongst the main areas of interest, while Loxley, Stannington and Walkley all lie to the west, together with Rivelin and the Rivelin Valley Natural Trail.
